This was a mission up in the foothills towards Kabul. There are a lot more people in the area and you can see the struggle to find places to build houses while maintaining as much farming area as possible.
Houses are ringing every spur and just hanging on the slope of the hills.
The area here is very rugged but there are a lot more houses so I assume there is a significant impact from the city of Kabul a few miles up the valley.
This is our third EWO (Touw) and by far the most experienced. He has worked with different EW programs since their early days and brings that big picture understanding to us who are new to the whole arena.
Is electronic warfare new enough that Afghanistan is the first real test of the possibilities? Are drones included in the term? What does the term "electronic war fare" include anyway? (A better question)
ReplyDeleteA lot of this technology was used extensively in Iraq but it is being further refined over here. Electronic warfare is a broad term used to describe anything that uses electrons in a way that reduces the enemies' ability to attack or defend itself. And yes, drones are included but not the ones that shoot rockets :).
